For its size, the city of York has an abundance of sports centres – the ideal situation for people of all ages to better their healthy lifestyle.

Here we feature the three council run sports centres: the Edmund Wilson Swimming Pool, Oaklands Sports Centre and Yearsley Swimming Pool.

Edmund Wilson Swimming Pool

As well as having a 25metre swimming pool and a toddler pool, the Edmund Wilson Swimming Pool also has sunbed facilities, play area, a creche and a gym.

The Edmund Wilson Swimming Pool is located on the outskirts of York in Dringhouses, not far from York racecourse.

Yearsley Swimming Pool

Oaklands Sports Centre

Oaklands Sports Centre is the largest of the council run sports centres in York. The sports centre is located just off the A64 and A1237 outer ring road in the west of the city.

The Oaklands Sports Centre boasts a gym with the latest fitness equipment, a climbing centre with 10m and 13m high climbing walls, plus a 4m high bouldering wall.

There is also a sports hall, outdoor pitches, dance studio, an ICT suite, bar, relaxation area and a crèche. There are also plans for a future swimming pool.
