Friday 23rd October to Sunday 1st November 2009, throughout the City of York.


As the nights draw in and the temperatures drop, the city of York prepares for its annual Illuminating York festival, now in its fifth year.
 
Thousands of visitors come into the York each year to see the city in a colourful new light, previous festivals have involved exciting art works projected onto St Mary’s Abbey, York Minster and the Yorkshire Museum.

Recognised internationally as a cultural hotspot that combines its stunning heritage with contemporary events and festivals, York is the ideal venue for such a marvelous Festival – an event for people of all ages.



Illuminating York Festival Highlights: Discover York in a New Light


The Cultural Evolution – The Creative York Symposium

Wednesday 28th October 2009
Venue: York Theatre Royal
Time: 9.30am – 6.00pm
Admission £40

The Creative York Symposium will explore 21st Century Creative Technologies and how they can Enhance the Cultural Infrastructure (of York). The programme will bring together a group of speakers, all of whom have had experience in planning, delivering and engaging with cities that are recognised for their creative approach to development and change.


KMA and Pilot Theater: 5Circles

Friday 23rd October – Sunday 25th October 2009
Venue: St. Sampson’s Square
Time: 7.00pm – 10.00pm
FREE EVENT
 
This is the beginning of a radical, imaginative and beautiful project, which will be rolled out across the globe. Rich patterns, colours and sounds create a playground of light in the heart of the City. KMA and Pilot Theatre will be using web technology to experiment with streaming, chat and feedback that can be watched wherever you are.

This forms the research project for the 2012 Olympics, and here in York we can get a glimpse of the project as it develops.

International arts companies GaiaNova and OMA International provide an exciting opportunity for you to draw with light on a huge historic canvas. Using the Tagtool; a simple interactive drawing board, see your doodles, words and pictures brought to life on the Multangular Tower in Museum Gardens.

Bright White: Vespertine

Friday 23rd October – Sunday 1st November 2009
Venue: Kings Manor Courtyard
Time: 6.30pm – 10.00pm

Created by Bright White and tucked away in the grounds of Kings Manor, Vespertine is a digitally produced sound and video installation that exposes the magnificence and brutality of nocturnal wildlife. Discover a place where cutting edge technology meets the natural world in what promises to be an eerie experience.
