Attic Records, Your Independent Vinyl Specialists in York!
The literally-astute and easily-assumable amongst you will have already deduced a lot about who we are and what we do simply from our name.
You are mainly correct: YES (we are a record shop) and YEAHHHH (unsurprisingly, yet simultaneously slightly strangely, we live in an attic).
But read betwixt the lines and you’ll see there’s so much more on offer than a pokey pile of records in a musty loft . . .
We are not a profit-making consumer machine, oiled by the man. Instead, we prefer to pigeonhole ourselves as bespoke purveyors of quality vinyl who remain 100% independent (and there’s not many folk who can claim that nowadays).
That makes us fair-trade, organic and community-minded, which in turn makes you, our customers, inherently good people.
You could say that grooves are indeed in our heart.
In fact we love records so much that it’s the only format we sell (though we do also stock some choice t-shirts, and gig tickets).
We have an extensive collection of niche, cult and underground music on circular plastic, which we’d love you to come and flick through. We’ll even make you a brew whilst you dribble on our indie and alternative 7’s (did we mention that we have the largest collection in York?).
Of course, we are inclusive not elitist though we sell a mahoosive range, you’ll also find old northern soul records, slabs of incendiary funk, reams of reggae, some skanking dub, no-wave, punk, post-punk,as well as countless other genres and sub-genres.
We also have the big dogs: Factory Records, the Bobs (Marley, Dylan) and a million bands with the ‘The; prefix (Who, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Clash, Jam, Smiths) etc.
