York is a relatively small city steeped in a long and illustrious history: this may be best shown through its many religious and historical buildings.
The city of York boasts beautiful architecture and some of the oldest churches in England, these places really bring the atmosphere of religion to life and are wonderful places to visit, whether as a tourist or for a service or to pray.
York Minster
York Minster is the cathedral of York and is one of the greatest and well known cathedrals in the world.
Being such a famous cathedral, York Minster offers visitors the chance to tour around this wonderful building as well as holding regular services.
For visitors to enjoy the Minster the opening times are as follows:
Monday – Saturday: open 9.30am last entry 5.00pm
Sunday: 12.00 noon – 3.45pm
Services are held every Sunday.

St Olave’s Church
St Olave’s Church is special in the respect that it is one of only a handful of churches in England that is dedicated to Olaf, patron saint of Norway.
Although there was an older monastery and church on the site where the current church stands, the church you see today started its life in the mid fifteenth century. Since it was built in the fifteenth century it has had additions since then to produce the majestic church you see today.

Monday 10.00 a.m. Holy Eucharist

St Michael Le Belfrey
St Michael Le Belfrey is an Anglican church found in the heart of the city and was initially built in the late thirteenth century. Unfortunately the first church was destroyed and rebuilt in the early sixteenth century, this rebuilt church has had many additions and alterations to finish with the church you see today.
The church is open for viewing on weekdays from 10am to 5pm.
Services are as follows:
Wednesdays 12.30 pm – Teaching service followed by a light lunch
Sunday 9 am – Morning Worship
Sunday 11 am – Family service
Sunday 7 pm – Evening service

York Holy Trinity Church
Hidden away where most people wouldn’t find it, the York Holy Trinity Church is a beautiful and majestic sixteenth century church with a gorgeous leafy churchyard.
The York Holy Trinity Church doesn’t have services but is a great place to visit and take a moment to pray.
The church is run by The Churches Conservation Trust.
