There is also a Georgian Icehouse which is a listed building. The gardens at Sutton Park have been featured in many prestigious publications and attract visitors from all over the world.

Sutton Park was built of mellow brick in 1730 by Thomas Atkinson. It has an amazing collection of 18th Century furniture, paintings and needlework mostly from Buckingham House, now Buckingham Palace, alongside an important collection of Meissen and Chelsea porcelain, as well as remarkable plaster-work by Cortese.

At the end of the 18th century, the interior of the house endured some changes, although the house remained relatively unaltered until the 20th century.

The property was sold in 1926 and again in 1944 after a number of complicated female inheritances. In 1963, the house became possession of the Sheffield’s and members of the family still live there today.

Sutton Park is open for the public to view the house on Sundays and Wednesdays between 1:30pm and 5pm and the gardens are open daily from 11am to 5pm, 1st April – 30th September.
