York Racecourse is a well known racecourse found in the south western area of the city. The York Racecourse is a large racecourse and holds a capacity crowd of 60,000 spectators.
Every year, York Racecourse hosts the famous Ebor Handicap. The Ebor Handicap is held during the Ebor Festival in August and is the most valuable handicap race in Europe for its type. The race is open to thoroughbred horses of three years of age or above, and started out in 1843. It has been run every year since, with the exception of 2008 due to water logging.
In total, York Racecourse holds around 17 national and international races of note including three of the thirty one Group One races held annually.
Royal Ascot was held at York Racecourse for one year, in 2005, while Ascot was undergoing refurbishment; this was a proud moment for the racecourse, as it is one of the top events in the racing calendar.
York Racecourse is also well known for its special weekends, where they have racing and other activities to create an almost carnival atmosphere. Some of these weekends include family fun days and music showcase weekends.
York Racecourse has a great hospitality package, with five restaurants available on race days where a huge variety of different foods and menu offers are available.

How to find York Racecourse
By car: follow the A64 before coming off at the A1036 Tadcaster Road. Follow the Tadcaster Road as it turns into Mount Vale and take the right turning on to Knavesmire Road. Follow Knavesmire Road on to Racecourse Road where the York Racecourse is located on your right.
